Mr. Burke is a Lecturer/Speaker, Underground Railroad and Civil War Historian, and Author of two books, ÏThe Mason Dixon LineÓ and ÏThe Escape of JaneÓ. Both can be purchased at SugdenÌs Bookstore in Marietta, and at www.transalleghenybooks.com online.

He was the recipient of the THE CONDUCTOR OF THE YEAR AWARD, which was presented to him at the fourth annual FRIENDS OF FREEDOM SOCIETY/OHIO UNDERGROUND RAILROAD ASSOCIATION SUMMIT held October 15-17, 1999 at the Holiday Inn/Dayton Mall, Miamisburg, Ohio.

The award recognizes Mr. Burke for his life-long research on the Underground Railroad. The Conductor Of The Year award was the most distinguished award presented to anyone at the summit. He is the Southeast Region Coordinator of the Ohio Underground Railroad Association and has been appointed to the Ohio Bicentennial Commission for both the Underground Railroad and the Civil War.

Mr. BurkeÌs gentle and modest nature immediately delights his audience as he shares the vast amount of information gathered from his documented research. Many years spent in libraries and interviewing descendants of African American slaves, including his own ancestors, have resulted in establishing information that educates, interprets, and preserves the history of the Underground Railroad.

Henry Burke is retired and resides in Marietta, Ohio where he has lived for 60 years. He was the first certified African American Strip Mine Forman in Ohio.
