The Wilds, located near Cumberland, Ohio, just 45 minutes from Marietta, is one of the largest and most innovative conservation centers in the world.

Spanning 14 square miles of reclaimed surface mined land, the Wilds is home to rare and endangered animals from around the world, and seeks to advance conservation through science, education, and personal experience.

Visitors choose from comfortable air-conditioned Safari Transports or custom Open-Air Transports for a guided tour through open-range areas to encounter animals such as rhinos, giraffes, and cheetahs – 25 species in all – living in large, natural habitats. Visitors learn about the animals and the issues affecting their survival.

During Safari Transport tours, guests can pick their own P.A.C.E. – Personal Adventure in Conservation Education – and depart the transports at four unique destinations: Lake Trail, the Wetlands, Outpost, and the new Mid-Sized Carnivore Conservation Center featuring cheetahs, African wild dogs, and dholes.

Before or after your Safari Transport tour, you can also explore a walking trail through the Butterfly Habitat, take in the view at the Birding Outpost at Jeffery Point, dine at the Overlook Café, or visit the Gift Market.

Sunset Safaris are offered Saturday evenings June through September. Visitors on this special tour begin the evening with dinner served on the deck of the Overlook Café to enjoy stunning views of the landscape. Then, board an Open-Air Transport for a guided tour through the open-range animal areas during feeding time, when the animals are up-close and active. This special tour also includes behind-the-scenes visits at animal management facilities. Reservations are required.

The Wilds is open to general visitors on select days May through October:

May:  10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday only

June, July, and August:  10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday
