For centuries pioneers have been discovering new adventures in Washington County. Today you can explore the hills and valleys of southeast Ohio with a high-tech treasure hunt called geocaching.
Geocaching is an international craze involving the use of a GPS system to search for hidden containers, or geocaches, in some very interesting public places. Nearly anyone can participate in the game and it can be played by families, groups, or individuals. The trend has become so popular that there are an estimated 1.3 million active geocaches worldwide.
To learn more visit www.geocaching.com, where you can register for a free membership and start searching for caches locally. By entering Marietta's zip code 45750, you will see a list of caches around the area including those on the Pioneer Trail. The Pioneer Trail was created by the CVB in June of 2013 and is a group of 18 caches hidden around Marietta. We are currently working to create a Washington-County geocaching trail that should be completed by July of 2014.
