Victorian Funeral
3:00 PM - 4:30 PM
"Ring the bell softly. There's black crepe upon the door." The year is 1879. The Dread Visitor has entered the Castle and borne away another prize - one of Marietta 's finest citizens has departed Our Fair City and gone to reside with the Immortal Spirits. Mourning wreaths adorn the Castle's front door, the paintings and mirrors are shrouded with black draping and the clocks have been stopped at the precise moment the sad event occurred. The household is ready to receive visitors wishing to offer their condolences. In partnership with Cawley and Peoples Funeral Home, the Castle is hosting a historically accurate re-creation of a Victorian funeral and wake. In addition to a presentation on the traditions, rituals and superstitions surrounding death and mourning during the Victorian era, period artifacts from Peoples' Packards and Museum will be on display. The Victorian Funeral Program will be presented at the Castle on October 5 and 12, 2008 at 3pm. Admission is $10. This program is not appropriate for children

Murder Mystery Weekend
October 31st & November 1st, 2008
Something was amiss throughout the sleepy little towns of Ohio ever since locals started turning up dead fifteen years ago. They were found as white as ghost with the look of complete horror on their faces and drained of hteir blood in a quite grizzley manner. It was as though the the victims were too scared to scream, that is the ones that could be identified. Many theories were presented as to who the killer(2) were, but still this carnage went on unsolved for a decade and a half, even with the help of the F.B.I. the case could not be cracked. The Haunting of Hill House

BY F. Andrew Leslie, from the novel by Shirley Jackson

A chilling and mystifying study in mounting terror in which a small group of "psychically receptive" people are brought together in Hill House, a brooding, mid-Victorian mansion known as a place of evil and "contained ill will." Led by the learned Dr. Montague, who is conducting research in supernatural phenomena, the visitors have come to probe the secrets of the old house and to draw forth the mysterious powers that it is alleged to possess—powers which have brought madness and death to those who have lived there in the past.
