American Cancer Societyʼs signature event, Relay For Life of Washington County, is set for Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17, 2008, at Belpre Civitan Park. Teams made up of families, friends, co-workers, churches, schools and businesses have been busy recently with fundraisers.

Goal this year is to earn $185,000 for the American Cancer Society.

A tentative schedule follows:  The Relay For Life event starts on Friday evening with Registration from 4-6 p.m., the Survivors Dinner at 5 p.m., followed by a group Survivors Picture at 6:45, Team Captains Picture at 6:50 p.m., and opening Ceremonies at 7 p.m.  Then a Survivors Lap with lots of cheering starts the official laps, followed by a Caretakers Lap and Captains Banner Lap. At 8 p.m. the ever popular purse auction begins at the gazebo to which the public is invited to participate. Prizes of all sorts come with the purses and they must be worth at least $25.  Purses must be registered with Sandra Hickey by 7:15 p.m. A special luminaria service honoring those who have lost their battle with cancer begins at 9:30 p.m.  A new addition will be a Memory Garden tent for a pause to reflect and remember.

There are activities all night long with entertainment by The Faculty beginning at 5 p.m. followed by Krusade from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. and M & M Soundwave with a Dance-a-thon from 12 to 2 a.m. Big D Karaoke will be from 2-5 a.m., and D.J. music from 5-8 a.m.  Saturday morning entertainment continues with Steve & Bev Pottmeyer at 8 a.m., Patty Dye at 9 a.m., and Tosha Spencer from 10-11 a.m.

Activities include water balloon volleyball at 6 p.m. Friday, the balloon magic of Mike King, a themed basket silent auction and a scavenger hunt at 11 p.m. Saturday fun starts with a pajama fashion show at 12:30 a.m., a euchre tournament at 1 a.m., a hula hoop contest and best theme lap at 7 a.m., a cornhole tournament from 8-10 a.m, Steve Dixonʼs magic, the inflatable toys, and a youth tractor pull from 8-11 a.m., bingo from 8-9 a.m., a kidʼs walk at 9:30 a.m., Subway lunch and awards starting at 11 a.m. and the Civitan balloon release at the very end.  In addition, this year there will be a kidʼs tent with ongoing activities to occupy the youngsters.  A final event schedule will be published the week of the Relay For Life.  To get involved in the Relay For Life call Teri Magers, Event Chair, at 740-236-7062.
