On Saturday, Feb. 27th, the Washington County Fairground, Junior Fair Building will resound all day long with the cackling of hens, crowing of roosters, quacking of ducks and honking of geese. From 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, the Southeast Ohio Poultry Breeders Association are hosting their Ninth Annual Poultry Show. The show will open on Saturday and judging will begin 9:00 am. The event will feature an open show, which is open to all ages, and a junior show including a showmanship competition for youth 18 and under. The show is free and open to the public. There will be a raffle of hand-made items, including a locally-made quilt. Hot food will also be available for those wishing a tasty breakfast or lunch.
Over 85 breeds of chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys of every color and size will be on display. The American Poultry Association has a judging standard and we want the poultry to match those standards. Type, color and breed are just a few of the things the judges will look for, says Pamela Phillips, SEOPBA member, This is a show the whole family can enjoy, and it's free. Children especially like the unusual birds. There will be exhibitors from at least ten states, many of whom recognize this show as the highlight of the season.
The Southeastern Ohio Poultry Breeders Association was organized in September 2000 for the purpose of promoting poultry. Its membership consists of farmers and backyard poultry enthusiasts who enjoy exhibiting their birds or just having some around for eggs.
The SEOPBA is an associate member of both the American Poultry Association and the American Bantam Association. Exhibitors will be recognized for their accomplishments if they are members of these groups.
If you are interested in becoming a member of SEOPBA or need information regarding the show, please call Kelli Adelsperger at 740-678-2883.
