The Evergreen Arts & Humanities 2007 - 2008 Series
Washington State Community Colleges Evergreen Arts & Humanities Series is pleased to announce the schedule for the 9th season.
Returning to the Harvey Graham Auditorium as the opening benefit performance will be Tripsichore. Merely Total Risk, which premiered in Germany at the Transatlantic Yoga Festival in Cologne, left the crowd on their feet shouting for more and will be presented on Saturday, October 20, 2007. Tickets for the opening benefit are $10 and the show will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets for opening night are available at the reception desk at Washington State, at Brighter Day, at the door or by calling 740.374.8716 x 2107.
Julie Zickefoose, will present Letters from Eden on Thursday, November 1, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. Zickefoose will tell countless small stories of the woods and meadows in flowing prose and lively watercolors. Bill Thompson, III, will join the performances to play music as a relaxing close the evening. This event is free and open to the public.
Ragamala music and dance theatre is scheduled for Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 8 p.m. Ragamala is dedicated to preserving the South Indian classical dance form of Bharatanatyam while using it as a springboard for innovative choreography. This event is free and open to the public.
Callie Lyons will lecture on her studies of the C8 phenomenon. Stain-resistant, Nonstick, Waterproof and Lethal: The Hidden Dangers of C8 endeavors to provide an evenhanded examination of scientific evidence on all sides of the issue in language that is straightforward and easy to understand. The lecture will be held Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
A gospel music concert by Ethel Caffie-Austin is slated for Saturday, February 23, 2008, 8 p.m. Chosen as West Virginias highest folk life honor recipient, the 2008 Vandalia Award, Caffie-Austin has been sharing the rich distinctive sound of black folk cultural heritage music through performance and teaching for more than a decade. The event is free and open to the public.
From Athens, Ohio, The Local Girls will be in concert on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 8 p.m. presenting their precision three-part vocal harmony that crowds from the White House to across the Midwest have come to enjoy. This event is free and open to the public.
The Illusion Factory, performers of drama and comedy, will present the musical based upon the stories of A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 2 p.m. Sure to be a delight for all ages, The Illusion Factory will present the tales of Christopher Robins fat little bear. This event is free and open to the public.
The fourth consecutive Student & Alumni Art Exhibit is slated for April/May 2008 and will feature the works of Dan McManniss fine arts programs at Washington State. A variety of media will be represented, including oil on cavas, alkyd, and charcoal, among others.
The 3rd annual Mothers Day concert will feature pianist Edward Bak on Sunday, May 11, 2008 at 3 p.m. A crowd favorite, this classical concert is free and open to the public.
