Alzheimers Research Benefit

By Darlene Martin

Darlene Martin of Townsquare Fabrics & Quilt Shop is working with Ami Simms, an international quilting instructor and author, to organize an Alzheimers' Benefit Sew-In on Thursday May 10, at the quilt shop. Sewers and quilters are invited to come in any time from 10am to 4pm to make (or assist in making) a 9" x 12" quilt. These quilts will be shipped to Simms to be auctioned off on her website to benefit Alzheimers' research. Make a quilt to honor someone you know who has/is suffering from this dreadful condition, or make one or two to help in the search for a cure. Thanks to local merchants for supplying lunch and snacks.

Some previously donated materials are available, but additional supplies are needed. Not only is there participation opportunities for sewers, but also for someone to cut, quilt, and bind these little miracles. For those interested in making quilts at home or in their groups and bringing them in, the quilts can be of any fabric, any technique, any pattern; only the size is specified in the project conditions. To learn more about this project, check Simms website at: www.amisimms.com
