National Library Week

By Susan Chipps

National Library week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association to celebrate the library. This years Library week was April 13-19. It marked the 50th anniversary. This year’s theme was "Join the circle of knowledge @ your library®."

To mark this week the Beverly Library had a Battle of the Schools competition. To participate any student needed to read a book, fill out a review slip and turn it in at the Beverly Library. At the end of the week the reviews were counted and the school with the most reviews had their students’ names entered in a drawing for $20 to Jukebox Pizza of Waterford. Only two schools participated in this year’s competition, Waterford and Fort Frye. When the reviews were counted there were 59 review slips for Fort Frye and 589 for Waterford. So Waterford’s students that turned in a review slip had their name entered in the drawing. Autumn Perdue won the $20 to Jukebox Pizza. All reviews have been put on display at the Library. We are looking forward to having this competition again next year.

Also at the Beverly Library, there will be a used book sale the week of April 28-May 3.

Anime Afternoon will be on May 7, May 14, May 21, and May 28 at 3:30.

There will be no other programs at the library in May as we prepare for Summer Reading. This year’s themes are “Catch the Reading Bug” and “Metamorphosis @ your Library.”

If you have any questions, comments, or ideas for future programs please stop in at the Beverly Library or call 740-984-4060.
