Put Conservation Work into Action at Wilds Trail Day Nov. 24

By Toni Keller

The Wilds will offer an opportunity to put conservation work into action during the Wilds Trail Day Nov. 24.

Late autumn offers great opportunities to explore the outdoors. During the Wilds Trail Day, participants will assist Wilds naturalists while learning and practicing proper trail construction and maintenance. Trail location, construction techniques, sensitive areas, safety, and slope work will all be discussed and put into practice.

This is a chance for visitors, including families, Scout groups, or service clubs, to explore the unique habitats of the Wilds’ 10,000 acres of reclaimed mine land while also helping the nonprofit conservation center in its work.

The Wilds Trail Day begins at 10 a.m.

Cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12. Participants bring their own lunch. Coffee and hot chocolate will be provided.

Advance reservations are required to attend, and must be made by Nov. 20. Call 740-638-5030 x2286.

Although closed for the regular visitor season, the Wilds provides an excellent opportunity for families, individuals, and groups to explore and experience the Wilds’ forests, wetlands, and prairie habitats through the Winter On the Wilds programs that take place on Saturdays throughout the fall, winter, and spring.

Designed by the Wilds’ professional conservation education staff, these day-long programs provide immersive and memorable learning opportunities on a wide variety of topics.

The mission of the Wilds is to advance conservation through science, education, and personal experience.
