TIME FOR BARBECUED CHICKEN!

By Teresa H. Stone

The annual barbecue dinner to benefit Hervida 4-H Camp is scheduled for 4:30 to 7 pm, Saturday, May 3, at the camp facility, which is located off of Ohio 339 between Waterford and Watertown.

Dinner includes barbecued chicken, vegetable, cole slaw, baked potato, roll, dessert and drink.  Tickets are $7 for half a chicken and $5 for a quarter of a chicken dinner.

Other activities during the dinner include a country store to benefit Hervida. Proceeds from the day go toward facility improvements. Diners are welcome to stretch their legs after eating by taking walks to check out the facilities and trails.

“Having this fund raiser at the camp provides an opportunity for people to see the many new improvements that have been made over the past few years,” said Teresa Stone, Extension Education, Natural Resources/4-H. A new swimming pool, hard surface basketball court and campfire seating are a few.  "We also see it as a way to promote the facility and possibly get some inquiries about renting it,” Stone said.

Hervida 4-H Camp includes 200 acres of woods and open fields, 21 sleeping cabins, hiking trails, a pool, volleyball court, and other buildings. The camp can be rented for school field trips, church gatherings, family reunions, club outings, band and sports camps.
